A stunning 4,382-square-foot Back Bay residence in the prized Burrage Mansion at 314 Commonwealth Ave. was sold Oct. 26 for $4.3 million.
Beth Dickerson of Gibson Sotheby?s International Realty was both the listing and selling broker for this home with
three-plus bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths and two deeded parking spaces in the ground-level garage.
Just four condominiums lie within this Gilded Age building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. (The first-floor and garden-level units are combined.)
Built in 1899 for Albert Cameron Burrage, a lawyer, businessman, philanthropist and horticulturist, the extravagant home, modeled after a 16th century French chateau, was meant to set a high standard for residences in the new Back Bay as it was being filled and expanded.
Even today, the condominiums within this palace are exquisite, and the Boston Landmarks Commission has protected the ornate interior lobby and grand marble staircase, common areas, from any radical change.
The entrance to Unit 1 reflects the grandeur of the lobby and opens into an anteroom with rich mahogany paneling and an original mosaic-tiled floor.

The master bedroom suite occupies one wing and includes a large dressing room with closets and a sumptuous en suite marble-tiled bath. Another wing holds two more bedrooms, a laundry room and a bath.
