Question: Other than your website, what?s on the list of main ways in which you communicate with your potential customers, fellow workers and good friends?
Answer: Through e-mail. Despite this, an email signature is actually always overlooked as a marketing and personal branding resource.
Think about the amount of emails you send out on a regular basis then consider for just a moment how many branding opportunities are falling through your fingers in not refining your e-mail signature! Initial perceptions count and past the first impression, an e-mail signature is a superb regular branding tool.
We live in such a cluttered world that you have to be doing all you can to stand out and slash through. Your main aim ought to be to demonstrate to people that you?re worth attention (credible within your industry), but also worthwhile connecting with ? that you are different.
Below are 6 top tips for an email signature that pops!
Business up top, party down below: Place general info first because they are what individuals might want to rapidly reference. Name, position, mobile, company web-site. This will take up to 4 lines, allowing you 1-3 lines to party! (see below)
Proof read it (many times): Spelling and grammar mistakes are a killer of personal brand name. You can?t afford to miss the basics due to the message it transmits to your customers. After all, if you fail to get your e-mail signature right, how on earth can you assist your clients?
Frequent updates: What ever is new and relevant to your target audience should be positioned in the signature and modified month to month. It?s a 60 second job to acheive it. Just think about the influence of a regular email signature update over the course of a year, or two, or three if you have a bunch of people in your business circles that get exposed to frequent emails. Over 36 months, that is 36 different communications, if you?ve updated monthly!
Call to action: When it is relevant to your customers, why not market it? Organizations pay out hundreds or thousands or more dollars advertising their organization with main stream marketing strategies. E-mail promotion costs nothing.
Social media profiles: These are a necessity and I don?t have to go over the necessity of social media because we?re all informed. The email signature is a free marketing opportunity for your user profiles. From a business-building and personal-branding viewpoint, as a combined collection, your social media profiles are bordering on being nearly as important as your website in my opinion.
Written URLs: These have a much better chance of coming through with your e-mail than hyperlinks.
