Write a book. Having your own book is a powerful business card. It not only makes you money, when done properly it positions you as the expert in the marketplace or in today?s parlance, the market will recognize you as the thought leader.

Let?s get started. Begin with a subject you are passionate about and you have a background in. Ask yourself the question, ?What do I know better than ninety percent of the people in my market?? Before you start writing, though, make sure there is an audience for your book. Too many authors publish before they research what is actually selling in the marketplace. So how do you find out if your book is marketable?

One relatively simple way that shouldn?t cost you more than a couple of hundred dollars is to do a probe campaign. This is when you use Google AdWords to drive people to a predetermined web site who may be interested in your subject to a predetermined web site where you capture the visitors? names and email addresses. With a budget of $200 you can research marketable keywords that are not too competitive. For example, I am writing a book on teaching alternative care practitioners how to write a book. I?ll type into the Google AdWord campaign box: docs writing books. If there isn?t too much competition I might be able to buy those words for 10 cents a click. That would get me 2000 clicks before my budget runs out. If I capture 15% of the names and email addresses of those people who visit my site I know there are 300 people who are interested in my topic.
